اولین نشست تخصصی بین‌المللی کوهزاد زاگرس (تهران، دانشگاه شهید بهشتی، 7 تا 9 آبان ماه 13)

1st International Congress on “Zagros Orogen” in 17th Symposium of Geological Society of Iran

Oct. 29, 2013, Shahid Beheshti University, Tehran, Iran

The Zagros Orogenic Belt (ZOB) of Iran, as a part of the larger Alpine–Himalayan mountain chain, extends in a northwest–southeast direction from the East Anatolian Fault (eastern Turkey) to the Oman line (southern Iran) and is world famous for its hydrocarbon reserves. An east-west trending suture zone separating southern Anatolia from the Arabian plate is also associated with the ZOB. This belt is considered to have been formed as a result of the Early Mesozoic collision of Iranian Plate with the north-east moving Arabian Plate, subsequent to the total consumption of the Neo-Tethyan oceanic lithosphere beneath Iran. The ZOB consists of four northwest– southeast-trending parallel zones (from northeast to southwest): (i) Urumia–Dokhtar Magmatic Assemblage; (ii) Sanandaj–Sirjan metamorphic Zone (SSZ); (iii) High Zagros; and (iv) Zagros Simply Folded Belt. The interdisciplinary session on Zagros Orogen seeks contributions from igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary petrology, overall tectonic and mineralization as most important keys to
understand the geological evolution of the Zagros Orogen.
